155 years Siemens

The young inventor takes the first step in October, 1847 to create one of the largest manufacturer of electronic appliances in the world.

Werner von Siemens was the fourth in family with 14 (!) children. He was born in 1816. Upon completing technical education he has concentrated all his attention on scientific work and technical inventions.

In 1846 he has made telegraph out of several cigar packages, tin sheets and copper wires. It became his first step in building one of the largest electronic appliances company in the world. In 1847 in Berlin Werner von Siemens and Johann Georg Halske have established the company "Telegraphen - Bauanstadt von Siemens and Halske". Nineteenth century witnessed many political and economic developments that helped the company to grow. The first long distance telegraph line was opened in Europe in March 28, 1849. News that IV. Fredirich Wilhelm became Emperor of Prussia, has reached Berlin within one hour.

Birth of electronic engineering

Practical application of electricity began from telegraph. An armature H, created by Werner von Siemens in 1856, became a basis for the dynamo-machine created after 10 years.

The dynamo-machine or the generator of electricity became the main reason of fast progress in technology and the industry. The first electric railway was presented in 1879 at the Trade Exhibition in Berlin, and Kaisergalerie in Berlin became the first street to be equipped with electric lamps. The first electrical lift started to operate in Mannheim in 1880, and the first-ever electric tram began to carry passengers on route Berlin - Lichterfelde in 1881.

In 1879 Werner von Siemens was the first to use the term `electrotechnic`, while the name of his company became a synonym of electric appliances. In 1920 place of Werner von Siemens in the company was replaced by his son Charles Fridrih, who was the first to create the concept of Siemens Home Appliances. He included all manufacturing complexes of Siemens into a rigid structure that emphasized central management. He also supported the principle of functioning in all areas of the industry, at the same time giving responsibility to affiliated companies and encouraging specialization. All these were fundamental blocks that formed the basement of today's position of the Siemens.

Siemens operates practically in all areas of the industry: communications, medicine, transportation, manufacturing of household appliances. "Osram GmbH" was founded in 1882 to produce electric bulbs. "Siemens and Halske" became the first company to successfully broadcast a television programme and 200 telephone conversations in 1936 due. In 1938 "Siemens - Reiniger - Werke" developed anode lamps that were used in hospitals and clinics till 1980s. In 1936 the first Siemens Protos washing machine was manufactured.

Siemens exists for 155 years. Nowadays the company serves millions of people in more than 190 countries and employs 386,000 specialists. Brave and innovative attempts of Werner von Siemens supported by discipline and hard work have turned into knowledge and technology. His inventions facilitate our life while manufacturing process brings no harm to environment, and his name is still recalled with respect and gratitude for his contribution to science and improvement of human life.

Siemens has produced the first washing machine, thus having exempted housewives from tedious process of hand washing. The company continues to introduce various innovations into production. Siemens manufactures very wide range of appliances - refrigerators, microwaves, washing machines, vacuum cleaners... And for each freestanding and built-in home appliance an extensive research is carried out in Siemens laboratories. Siemens was the first to introduce into the market an oven with self-cleaning system, a deep-freezer with No-Frost technology, the washing machine with reduced ironing option and refrigerators with bacteriaKontrol by AgION. For the past 155 years Siemens has carried out many innovations in the sector of home appliances. Siemens has manufactured the first washing machine with drying option, the most capacious refrigerator and the first Hi-Sense dishwasher with one-key functioning. In 2002 Siemens has introduced into the market the SIWAMAT IQ washing machine, an example of the newest technology. It automatically adjusts consumption of water and electric power according to a level of linen dirtyness, and also determines the necessary amount of detergent.
